Week of May 22, 2026 — Resource Editor, Gradient Ramp Editor, and EM2 Progress
This was a big Resource Editor and Gradient Ramp Editor week for NHUE.
The Resource Editor made the largest jump. It gained a much stronger prefab/resource editing foundation with prefab commands, component commands, hierarchy editing, drag/reparent/reorder behavior, live transform controls, preview selection improvements, screenshot/clean view support, folder browsing performance work, options, and diagnostics.
The Resource Editor folder system also got a major performance-focused pass. Instead of trying to recursively expand huge project trees all at once, the new direction uses Expand +1, scoped deep expand/collapse, large-folder paging, caching, queue-based incremental expansion, safety limits, and Root-to-collapse behavior. This should help keep the editor more responsive while navigating larger Unity projects.
The Gradient Ramp / Color Ramp side also made a major leap. The color ramp system has been reorganized into a dedicated ColorRampEditor area with a real Ramp Browser, Editable Gradient 2 Workbench, relief preview processor, built-in editable gradient presets, image-ramp conversion, randomizer tools, and detailed diagnostics. The ramp library has grown to 369 NHUE ramp PNGs, with more terrain, biome, alien, fantasy, volcanic, desert, tundra, forest, and worldbuilding color options.
The 3D Editor also moved forward with EM2 Delete 2.0. Mesh2 now has native delete operations, Delete Only Faces / Keep Edges & Verts, loose topology cleanup, and organized right-click Delete > and Dissolve > context menu groups.
This was mainly a Resource Editor + terrain color workflow week. Image Editor 2, Scene Editor, Avatar Editor, Audio Editor, Video Editor, and File Browser did not show major source-code changes in this weekly comparison, so they are not being listed as new weekly progress here.
Why This Matters
This update matters because NHUE is moving farther away from being a set of isolated utility windows and closer to being a real connected Unity editor suite. The Resource Editor is becoming one of the backbone systems for prefab/resource editing. It can now move toward real prefab construction, hierarchy organization, component workflows, multi-object editing, drag/drop resource assembly, clean screenshot capture, and safer navigation through large projects. The Gradient Ramp Editor is also becoming a serious terrain-color workflow instead of just a ramp picker. The new Ramp Browser, EG2 Workbench, randomizer, image-ramp conversion, relief preview, and larger NHUE ramp library make terrain presentation much stronger. The EM2 Delete 2.0 work keeps the 3D Editor modeling foundation moving forward too, especially for future Mesh2-based modeling tools.
Next Focus
Test the new Resource Editor systems carefully around save/apply/revert, dirty state, component edits, hierarchy changes, drag/drop, folder expansion, and large-folder navigation. Continue adding public screenshots for Resource Editor, Gradient Ramp Editor, Ramp Browser, Editable Gradient 2, relief previews, AMG/TAM/NM-LM, and 3D Editor EM2. Keep expanding the roadmap around Resource Editor prefab workflows, Gradient Ramp terrain-color workflows, and EM2 modeling operations.
